Really, the single biggest change that impacts gameplay is the stealth. There's a whole laundry list of small changes I could go through, but they've been listed on review websites of the time, as well as multiple game wikis. It ran, but crippled many pc's of the era (and still can do now) and crashed often. Plus it's engine was held together by duct tape and pixie sticks. It basically means that the game has wonderful ideas, setting, and atmosphere, but the gameplay execution is very rough around the edges. The original release of 2033 is also a shining example of a Eurojank game, a term coined by players of the STALKER franchise, a series which many 2033 developers also worked on. See, for Metro 2033, the redux was made to make the first and second games in the series visually similar, porting 2033 over to a tweaked version of Last Light's engine. Then there are the large number of changes the redux went through. Since you're talking console experience, the truth is that redux, only available on the Xbox One, will play smoother and run at a consistent 60 fps, where as the original 2033 on Xbox 360 has some fairly god awful frame rate drops. redux has died down quite a bit as most fans of the series now either exclusively played redux, or only had it as an option to buy.
